The Battle of our Lives!

Recently my mom and I were talking about our health. Now, my mom was recently diagnosed with early stages of (arthrosclerosis) or as most people know it as hardening of the arteries. This is a serious condition, and she informed me of how she planned to change her lifestyle and eating habits. I realized at that moment that I had to shed some of this excess weight too, my problem is that my weight goes up and down, and it never stays the same. So it is time for a lifestyle change. Dr. Ian has some tips for seeking a healthy lifestyle change.
Dr. Ian K. Smith:

Cut your portions in half. When you go out to a restaurant, the first thing you should do is divide the food in half and ask for it to be boxed up so you can take it home.

Add color to your diet. Avoid the white rice, pasta, potatoes and bread. Instead, choose brown rice, whole-wheat pasta, sweet potatoes and whole-grain bread. And don't forget the colorful fruits and vegetables.

Control your food environment. Keeping healthy snacks, like carrots, yogurt and almonds, on hand is the best way to prevent hunger between meals and stop you from reaching for a bag of chips or candy bar.

Eat four small meals a day. This will keep your hormone levels from spiking and prevent the excessive hunger between meals that often leads to binging on high-calorie foods.

Eat like a king for breakfast, a prince for lunch and a pauper for dinner. Eating your heavier meals earlier in the day will give you more time to burn off the calories the rest of the day.

Singer D'Angelo arrested for soliciting oral sex!!!!!

R&B Singer D,Angelo was busted over the weekend after trying to solicit a blow job from an undercover cop. According to the NY Post:

Grammy Award-winning R&B singer D’Angelo was arrested early yesterday after allegedly offering an undercover policewoman $40 for oral sex while cruising alone through the West Village — with $12,000 stashed in his SUV.

D’Angelo, 36, whose real name is Michael Archer, was in his top-of-the-line Range Rover at Greenwich and Horatio streets at about 2:30 a.m. when he spotted a woman he took to be a prostitute.

Well it is a blessing that rapper J-Kwon finally decided to pop-up after being missing since the beginning of February. J-Kwon who's real name is Jarrell Jones disappeared mysteriously without a trace. No one has heard from him in over a month!

...Now after some investigating I found out that on Thursday the rapper called his record label to report that he was OK, and he needed some time away from the spotlight to think!

Beijing, China (CNN) -- China has threatened to slap sanctions on American companies that sell arms to its rival Taiwan as part of a range of punitive actions Beijing is taking to protest the deal.

China also summoned U.S. ambassador Jon Huntsman to express its anger over Washington's announcement, the official Chinese news agency Xinhua said, citing the Foreign Ministry.

Beijing also suspended plans for visits between the Chinese and U.S. militaries and postponed a high-level arms control meeting, it announced Saturday, following Washington's $6.4-billion arms deal with Taiwan.

China's Defense Ministry said the decision was made "in consideration of the serious harm and impacts on Sino-U.S. military relations" brought about by the arms deal, according to Xinhua.

"China will make further judgments as appropriate," Xinhua reported.

China had already complained to the United States about the deal, announced Friday by the Obama administration.

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister He Yafei called it a "rude interference in China's internal affairs, severely endangering China's national security" and said China expressed its "strong indignation."

The arms sale includes 60 Black Hawk helicopters, totaling $3.1 billion; 114 advanced Patriot air defense missiles; a pair of Osprey mine-hunting ships; and dozens of advanced communications systems.

The deal with Taiwan -- which neither China nor the United States recognizes as an independent country -- does not include F-16 fighter jets, which China has vehemently opposed.

The State Department described the latest round of arms sales to Taiwan as a way to guarantee security and stability, despite China's objections.

"This is a clear demonstration of the commitment this administration has to provide Taiwan with defensive weapons it needs and as provided for in the Taiwan Relations Act," State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said Friday.

He said the action is consistent with Washington's "one-China" policy and will help maintain security and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

The arms sales come as the United States is hoping to persuade China to sign on to harsher sanctions against Iran and just after Secretary of State Hillary Clinton criticized China for its policies relating to the Internet.

Crowley would not speak directly about the timing of the announcement of the sales, and about the fact that the arms package does not include F-16s.

A senior U.S. official said later that the United States expected Chinese criticism of the arms deal, but does not expect permanent damage.

The official said he believed Clinton had discussed the sale in London with her Chinese counterpart on the sidelines of Thursday's international conference on Afghanistan.

"This relationship between the United States and China is broad, it's deep. There are a large number of issues. We don't see eye to eye with them and we have to have and do have the ability to speak honestly," the official said.

The arms deal is the latest chapter in a decades-long uneasy standoff. China claims Taiwan is its own territory and has threatened to invade if Taiwan ever declares independence. The United States has said it will defend Taiwan if China ever attacks.

The government in Taiwan began as the remnant of the government that ruled over mainland China until a Communist insurrection proved victorious in 1949. With the Communist takeover of mainland China, the losing faction fled to the island of Taiwan. Taiwan is formally known as the Republic of China, while Communist China's official name is People's Republic of China.

Many Western nations and the United Nations recognized Taiwan as the legitimate Chinese government until the 1970s.

Crispus Attucks, the first slave to die in the Revolutionary War, would weep if he were alive in 2010. He would weep tears of joy to see a man of African descent holding the office of president. He would weep tears of joy seeing black billionaires Oprah Winfrey and Bob Johnson. He would weep seeing Adrian M. Fenty presiding as mayor of the capital city. But he would also weep with grief upon seeing that over two hundred years later the Negro is still not free; only this time ourselves enslave us.

African Americans have the highest level of unemployment, one of the lowest levels of education, and despite making up 12.9% of the population we account for over half of the prison population. Forty-two years after the assassination of Dr Martin Luther King, Jr. majority of the blacks in the United States have let go of the values that once defined the bond amongst our race.

Present day we have enslaved ourselves mentally by dividing each other by skin complexion to social status to dialect. The most offensive racial slur used for African Americans is “nigger”. The endless debate on nigger versus nigga should have never taken place. That word should have been eradicated from American society after the progress of the Civil Rights era.

Nigger is defined as a commonly pejorative ethnic slur to describe black people or a person who is ignorant to the dominant culture. After residing in the United States of America since 1619, it is laughable to believe we are ignorant of the dominant European influenced culture. The other definition is a racial slur to blacks, like honkey to whites, guidos (although MTV recently showcased young mislead Italians glamorizing this word) to Italians, and wetback for Mexicans.

Starting in the late 1980s to early 1990s the Hip Hop genre of music began habitually using the new and improved version of nigger. This new word was creatively given the name nigga. Rappers (Jay Z and Ludacris to name a couple) have been vigilant in insisting that nigga was a term of endearment, and is interchangeable with “my brother”. They insist of pronouncing it an “-a” instead of an “-er”, it loses all negative connotations. This claim is ridiculous.

The term nigger is proper English, nigga is broken English. It is the same word, and has the same meaning. Sadly, I constantly hear people, non-blacks as well, using this word as casually as any other. By holding onto such a word, we are holding onto a piece of racial division inside of us. Think of all the women whom cried as the word was hurled at their husbands, as they were beat. Think of all the children who saw how one word made their father less of a man. Think of all the men whose last word was nigger as they hung by their neck.

We as a people must start to remove the shackles we have placed on ourselves. The first way to start is to remove the word from your vocabulary, in respect for our heritage. It is still salvageable if we stand together as strong as we once did. Emancipate yourself from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds.

One can argue that Nivea is referencing her past relationships with Lil Wayne and The Dream in the song however, these girls just might have a new ladies anthem on their hands…
